At the City of Lahti, we have been making sustainable choices for decades. This year it earned us international recognition, as we were named the European Green Capital for 2021.

We want to encourage all organisations to make commitments to our planet’s future and engage their employees in them, so we all can be sustainable not just in our private lives, but our working lives as well.

Lahti – European Green Capital 2021

Lahti is a city known for its pioneering environmental actions that have earned it the title of European Green Capital. Finland’s leading green city has abandoned the use of coal and will become a carbon-neutral city by 2025 as the first major city in Finland.

Lahti’s commitment to circular economy is high, with as much as 99% of household waste is recovered.Surrounded by forests and water, the city’s environmental excellence is rooted in a grassroots movement to protect its waters from pollution. The city continues to engage its residents in creating sustainable urban development.
