Fazer’s xylitol factory in Lahti has started its operations – the plant is the only one in the world to make xylitol from oat hulls.
Fazer’s xylitol factory, producing xylitol from oat hulls, has started its commercial operations in Lahti, Finland. The Fazer Xylitol factory is an excellent example of a modern circular economy innovation, utilising a unique, patented technology. The international demand for Finnish xylitol is anticipated to increase in the future due to its many application opportunities in the food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries.
– The xylitol plant implements the circular economy by example: the extra material is utilized to re-use for new products. Lahti will be carbon neutral city by 2025 and become a zero-waste circular economy city by 2050. Fazer’s xylitol factory supports Lahti´s goal becoming ‘climate neutral’, says Jenni Rakhkonen, Environmental Coordinator at City of Lahti.
