Lahti’s strategy is to be a bold environmental city that finds solutions to global
environmental challenges together with universities, companies, and residents.
The Green Capital is created through extensive cooperation across municipal and regional borders,
in which the whole of Finland works together.

Ministry of the Environment
The Ministry of the Environment wants to be an effective and influential player and a good cooperation partner in securing sustainable development, a good environment to live in and biodiversity, both for the present and future generations. The Ministry is responsible for legislative and policy preparation for the Government and Parliament concerning the climate, communities, built environment, housing, biodiversity and sustainable use of natural resources, and environmental protection.

LAB University of Applied Sciences
The LAB University of Applied Sciences was born out of the desire to reform higher education and employment – the desire to make work more meaningful. The aim is to reform employment and the ways of working by trying out new things in novel ways, in collaboration with business enterprises. LAB’s strengths lie especially in the circular economy, design, innovations and well-being. The LAB campuses are located in Lahti, Lappeenranta and online.

LUT University
LUT University is a pioneering science university that has been bringing together the fields of science and business since 1969. LUT University helps society and businesses in their sustainable renewal. Ecological, economic and social sustainability steer LUT in its strategic choices, scientific research, academic education and societal interaction. LUT University operates on two campuses, in Lappeenranta and Lahti.

University of Helsinki
The University of Helsinki is a multidisciplinary scientific community and the largest and oldest science university in Finland. On the Lahti University Campus, the university operates in interaction with the surrounding society and promotes the use of research-based information in the development of the region. Offering teaching, conferences and events aimed at the general public, the university is an active developer of society, builder of sustainable well-being and finder or solutions to global challenges.

Salpaus Further Education
Salpaus Further Education is one of the biggest providers of multidisciplinary vocational education and training in Finland. The basic task of Salpaus is to produce competence promoting the renewal of working life and entrepreneurship. The aim is, among other things, to develop individual and flexible study paths, operating models for guidance, the quality of on-the-job education and training, the efficient use of digital learning environments and working methods, and smooth transitions between different levels of education.
